Rohingya Capacity Building

Teacher Training

A core pillar of R-Academy’s model is not only providing high-quality courses for students, but also building capacity among Rohingya educators themselves. We believe that empowering Rohingya teachers ensures sustainability, cultural relevance, and long-term ownership of the learning process.
Onboarding

Rohingya Teachers for Online Courses:

R-Academy actively recruits and trains Rohingya community members to serve as instructors for our online classes. These teachers undergo a structured onboarding process that introduces them to the platform’s tools (including virtual classrooms, digital course design, and student engagement techniques). Beyond technical training, they receive mentoring in instructional design, assessment methods, and the use of interactive features such as quizzes and group discussions. This ensures that our online courses are not only academically sound but also grounded in the lived experiences and cultural context of Rohingya learners. Several graduates of the original pilot have already transitioned into assistant or lead teaching roles, exemplifying the “learn-to-teach” pathway we aim to institutionalize.

35+ Teacher Trained

Offline Teacher Training in Cox’s Bazar:

To complement our digital focus, R-Academy has also undertaken offline training for Rohingya teachers in refugee camps. In partnership with community educators in Cox’s Bazar, we have conducted workshops for 35 teachers specializing in Rohingya language instruction. These sessions focused on pedagogy, curriculum development, and integrating digital tools into traditional classroom settings. By strengthening the skills of these teachers, we ensure that the Rohingya language — a cornerstone of cultural identity — continues to be taught effectively to thousands of children in camp settings. This initiative has built a cadre of trained educators who are both cultural custodians and bridges to the wider digital education ecosystem.
Empowering Rohingya Educators:

Building a Sustainable Learn-to-Teach Cycle

Together, these efforts demonstrate our commitment to a teacher-centered approach. By equipping Rohingya instructors with the skills and confidence to lead, we are building a sustainable cycle where today’s students become tomorrow’s educators, ensuring the continuity and expansion of R-Academy’s impact.
